I’m back in Colorado after leading an incredible photo tour of London & Paris. My clients and I had so much fun photographing and exploring these cities as part of my creative travel photo workshop series. I always like to pack my infrared camera when I’m traveling, because it’s a great way to capture a popular subject in a totally unique way. To that effect, we had great skies during our morning at Montmartre, where we visited Sacré-Coeur. It was the perfect conditions for infrared photography.

Nikon 16-35mm f/4 AFS G VR lens (using Metabones adapter)
Processed in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and finished in Photoshop with Nik plug-ins.

I just finished putting the touches on my 2018 Instructional Photo Safari Calendar. This year, I’m offering early bird discounts when you book a seat by December 31st.

For 2018, I’ve listened to your feedback and I’m taking smaller groups (6-8) for a more personalized experience. I’m also offering more birding safaris, as it’s something many people have been asking about. I’m also offering photo tours, including another photo cruise to Alaska!

My philosophy is simple: photography is a craft. I believe you learn the most when you immerse yourself in the complete workflow of photography (visualization/capture/processing) for more than just a morning or afternoon.

On my tours and safaris, we focus on more than just taking pictures. It’s about the experience itself. I hope you’ll find the time to join me in the field soon!

Holland Spring Photo Tour Announced!

8-Day Photo Tour From Amsterdam, April 15-23, 2018

I’m excited to announce that I’ve arranged a spring photo tour to Holland for April 15-23, 2018 for the incredible tulip festival. On this 8-day, small-group tour, we will explore the Dutch countryside, tulip fields, windmills, and more.

Our itinerary includes five nights in Amsterdam, plus three nights in the countryside exploring smaller towns and the coast. We will of course visit the world-famous Kerkenhof Gardens during the tulip bloom, and tour the windmill village of Kinderdijk. Our private tour includes a 16-passenger coach and local, English speaking guides to put us in the best spots for photography along the way.

After driving north into the countryside, we’ll stay in the “Venetian” town of Gierthoorn, which has canals but no roads. We also have a ferry to the island of Schiermonikoog, where we’ll have photograph scenes and colorful lighthouses.

We’ll then return to Amsterdam for three nights. Our final two days will be filled with photo walks in Amsterdam as well as free time to explore the gardens, canals, and museums as you see fit.

Workshop Report: Miami Beach Photo Safari Underway

Deborah Sandidge and I kicked off our Miami South Beach Art Deco photo workshop and tour yesterday and we’re having a blast! The first portfolio review is coming up soon, and then we’re off for more evening shooting. We have a great group of enthusiastic students and it’s a real privilege to be with such wonderful people!

I’m pleased to announce the next stop on the Digital Underground instructional photo tour: Seattle, Washington! Join me and co-leader Deborah Sandidge as we tour the sights of the Emerald City, August 7-11, 2014.

On this four-day instructional photo tour, we will be focusing on capturing the essence of the Seattle area using creative techniques. Each day, you’ll get an assignment for using one of the techniques we’ll cover, including blue hour/night photography, monochrome, HDR, and long exposures. You will receive personal instruction and image critique each day both on-location and in the classroom.
