I’m pleased to announce the addition of two new Digital Underground instructional photo tours for spring and summer 2015. I will be co-hosting these small group (10 max) tours with Deborah Sandidge. Each day, we’ll cover interesting locations within the city, explore creative techniques, and provide feedback and critique. We roll into the Windy City in the summer of 2015 to capture the amazing art and architecture of Chicago. We’ll start with an architectural boat tour along the Chicago River. We’ll also photograph the fireworks display over Navy Pier. No trip to Chicago would be complete without photographing “The Bean” sculpture in Millennium Park.

Digital Underground: Las Vegas October 23-26, 2014

We will enjoy the lights and sights of Las Vegas after dark and photograph both iconic and out of the way places. Your tuition includes a special private shooting session at the Neon Museum Boneyard after dark (we’ve arranged permission to use tripods), and a day trip to the eclectic ghost town of Nelson. We’ll also photograph street art, the Fremont Street district, and the famous Las Vegas strip.

This unique photographic experience is limited to 10 photographers; learn more here.

San Antonio, TX

Digital Underground: San Antonio Nov 6-9, 2014

San Antonio is home to the famous Riverwalk district, where water taxis ferry passengers throughout downtown. We’ll photograph the Riverwalk during the blue hour to capture iconic images of the moving water and outdoor cafes. We’ll of course photograph the Alamo, but we’ve also arranged a private after-hours shooting session at Mission San José, something not available to the general public. We’ll also get great images of the Bexar county courthouse and nearby San Fernando Cathedral. November is the perfect time to visit San Antonio; we hope to see you there!

I’m pleased to announce the next stop on the Digital Underground instructional photo tour: Seattle, Washington! Join me and co-leader Deborah Sandidge as we tour the sights of the Emerald City, August 7-11, 2014.

On this four-day instructional photo tour, we will be focusing on capturing the essence of the Seattle area using creative techniques. Each day, you’ll get an assignment for using one of the techniques we’ll cover, including blue hour/night photography, monochrome, HDR, and long exposures. You will receive personal instruction and image critique each day both on-location and in the classroom. We’ve deliberately limited the group size to ten photographers to maximize contact time with the participants. Photo of the Day: What Remains is not Lost

I captured this image during the recent Digital Underground Las Vegas workshop that I co-hosted with Deborah Sandidge. This is a close-up shot of one of the old signs laid to rest in the Neon Museum Boneyard. While there were lots of great wide-angle shots to be had, I always like it when I’ve got enough time to start looking for close-up images.

Tech Specs
Fujifilm X-T1 with 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens
2.5s @f/9, ISO 200, 55mm, tripod

Fuji raw file processed in Lightroom 5.4

Location Note
Tripods are not normally allowed during visits to the Neon Museum. We arranged for a special photo tour after hours. If you are interested in joining us on another Digital Underground workshop, please send me a note or join the Luminescence of Nature Photography Workshop group on Meetup.com.
