Here’s another photograph from my recent travel photography workshop in London. The Albert memorial stands in tribute to Queen Victoria’s late prince consort. On this unusually cloudless afternoon in London, we waited until early evening to photograph the memorial and avoid harsh shadows.
There’s nothing like the colors that you’ll find high in the Colorado rockies in the summer. This year’s winter delivered the much-needed snowpack in the high country, so I’m optimistic about this summer’s wildflower blooms. One of the best locations to find wildflowers in Colorado is around the town of Crested Butte. While there are certainly many famous locations for Colorado wildflowers, many of them require serious 4WD vehicles to reach. At Crested Butte, I’ve scouted the surrounding areas and pretty much every site I visit can be reached by a standard vehicle.

Capturing the essence of London
Travel photography is all about capturing moments that give a distinct feeling of place. In London, there’s nothing more distinctive than the red double-decker busses that roam the city streets. On this picture-postcard day, I chose to capture the motion of the bus with a long exposure (learn how here). Even though the bus is blurred, the viewer knows exactly what it is and where I’m at. The beautiful architecture of St. Pancras station creates a great backdrop.
I’m back in Colorado after leading an incredible photo tour of London & Paris. My clients and I had so much fun photographing and exploring these cities as part of my creative travel photo workshop series. I always like to pack my infrared camera when I’m traveling, because it’s a great way to capture a popular subject in a totally unique way. To that effect, we had great skies during our morning at Montmartre, where we visited Sacré-Coeur. It was the perfect conditions for infrared photography.

Fujifilm X-T1 (converted to infrared by Kolari Vision)

I love it when I can capture interactions in nature. This bumblebee had no issues with being photographed on my 2018 Colorado Wildflower Safari. Spaces are available to join me there on this year’s workshop, where you’ll learn creative close-up techniques and photograph the summer wildflower blooms in the Rocky Mountains.
