Photo of the Day: Prairie Fleur

Indian Paintbrush, Calhan, CO

I went out yesterday afternoon (pre-eclipse) for a hike with my son. He enjoyed scrambling around the rocks, and I enjoyed the scenery. The paintbrush were in full bloom on the prairie, so I got low with my Nikon 1 V1 and grabbed some shots. I ran this image through Color Efex Pro 4 twice. The first time was to get the overall color/contrast, and the second time was after I’d added a Flypaper Texture overlay to get the final impressionist look. By using layers in Photoshop, I was able to get the blending just right.

Enjoy!

  1. I love this image! I have the Complete Collection of Nik Software and have used Color Efex Pro a good bit. I’ve never processed two images with two different effects before. Great idea. I’m looking forward to trying it out with some of my images. Thanks for the idea and for the great blog.
