She Didn’t Know She Had Wings

I decided to take a little photo walk on my own this morning in Manitou Springs, Colorado. I packed only the Nikon 1 V1 kit, which was small enough to fit into a Think Tank Photo Skin Chimp Cage. It’s refreshing to be able to walk around with such a light kit and know that I’ll get good shots from it.

Along the way, I passed this fountain, beneath a gazebo. I thought I’d try for a different point of view, so I popped the SB-N5 onto the V1, and got down low with the 10-30mm VR zoom. This is not a shot that would be easy to do with a full-size DSLR, as I had to trust the V1 to focus and hold it down very low and pointed upwards. Needless to say, I was pleased with the shot, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the gazebo created a set of “wings” for the sculpture.

Processing notes

Original image converted in Nikon’s Capture NX 2.3 then sent to Photoshop where I applied a few filters from Nik Software’s Color Efex Pro 4.0 suite.
