In your experience, is it worthwhile to do HDR using 3- shots at +2, 0, -2 EV? My D90 will only do 3 shots using AEB.
You can do that, Tim, and it should work out OK. In theory, you’ll get slightly smoother tone-ramps with 1-stop increments. You can try it both ways and see which result you like better (you can bracket manually for the 1-stop series). I think in most cases, you’ll be fine. More extreme HDR (extreme backlight) will benefit from a wider bracketed range.
Great image, it really shows what HDR can do. I really like the look that you get from HDR Efex pro, the images are much more natural.
BTW – That’s not a steam gauge, since that isn’t a steam locomotive. While it looks like one, it actually was powered by compressed air, and the gauge shows air pressure. They’re designed for use in the mines, where the fumes and open flames of a regular locomotive were too dangerous. They’d fill the big cylinder up with compressed air, and then use it like steam to power the locomotive. (Yes, I’m a train geek…)
Thanks for clearing that up, Bob. It was indeed mining gear. I wasn’t sure if it was steam powered, but now I know!
