2017 marks my 7th consecutive year of leading landscape photography safaris in South Dakota! I hope you’ll join me to explore fine-art landscape photography techniques in an environment that can only be described as surreal. We will explore light, texture and clouds over the tremendous rock formations that have formed from erosion over the last 500,000 years.
You’ll be treated to some amazing sunrises and sunsets and rock formations that could be mistaken for the moon. This safari is the perfect setting for photographers who not only want to photograph spectacular scenery, but also learn the behind the scenes techniques for processing and workflow, including HDR, infrared, and long exposures.
Each day, we will download and process our images together as a group, get critiques, and learn new techniques to transform your photos into fine-art masterpieces. I will work with you to capture and process the best possible images into beautiful finished products.
I’m pleased to announce my dates for the South Texas Birding Experience 2017. For next year, I am offering two small group (max 4) sessions for getting some of the best bird photos in all of the USA. There is nowhere else I’ve been where I can capture closeups of small birds, including unique species like the green jay with perfect backgrounds.
Session 1: June 1-5, 2017
Session 2: June 7-11, 2017
All Inclusive Photo Safari Includes:
Three days of private access to the photo blinds

Take a road trip and explore creative close-up and HDR photography in a rusted car paradise
I just got back from visiting Old Car City USA near Atlanta, Georgia. What an amazing place! With nearly 40 acres of vintage cars, this one-time auto parts yard is now a photography paradise for anyone looking to get creative while exploring textures, colors, and vintage icons of American automotive yesteryear.
I’ll be leading a creative photo workshop here November 4-5, 2016. We’ll have two days to shoot at Old Car City, plus field and classroom instructional sessions where I’ll help you bring out the best in your photographs; both during and after the shoot. I’ve also arranged for discounted lodging right down the road so we won’t have to make the hour drive from Atlanta each day.
This location is often described as a “bucket list” spot for anyone who likes old cars. I think it’s perfect for photographers of all levels, especially because the sheer vastness of the site really requires you to think about subject and composition while exploring details, textures, and colors in the huge collection of decaying vehicles.
I’m happy to announce that I’ll be returning to Crested Butte, Colorado in July 2016 to lead a small-group wildflower/macro photo safari and workshop! You’ll photograph the beautiful wildflowers in a high alpine setting and learn macro and close-up photography techniques. Participants will also receive hands-on field instruction, post-processing help, and image critiques.
This tour is open to a maximum of 10 photographers.
