These little tidbits will save a lot of headaches if you travel with your camera
In October 2010, I made the decision to pursue my photography career full-time. Since then, travel has become an important component of my business. As you might imagine, traveling with your camera gear adds a layer of complexity to any plans you may have. Whether its dealing with airport security or just figuring out how to pack everything so it is safe, there are lots of little things that can make your travel experience easier. Here are some of my favorite travel tips.
Photograph the biodiversity of Central America as we photograph the wildlife of western Panama. On this unique photo safari, you’ll photograph rainforest birds, mammals, insects and more. Observe colorful birds from a 65′ high observation tower, tour the rainforest with experienced naturalist guides, and enjoy home-cooked meals at our airconditioned eco lodge retreat.
When: April 5-11, 2020 from Panama City, Panama Experience Level: Intermediate to advanced photographers Maximum Group Size: 8 photographers
Join mel to photograph Ireland, September 14-23, 2020. We’ll begin in Dublin and then take a private tour of southern Ireland with emphasis on finding the best locations for photography. Along the way, I’ll be teaching creative composition & exposure and digital post-processing and workflow for travel photography.
When: Sept 14-23, 2020 from Dublin, Ireland Maximum Group Size: 12 Experience Level: Open to all levels; beginners welcome!
Split to Bol, Hvar, Biševo, Vis, Korcula, Mljet, Slano, Elafiti Islands and Dubrovnik
Discover the ancient cities along the Adriatic Coast aboard a chartered yacht. Unlike traditional cruises, we’ll be aboard a 36-passenger motor yacht and spend the nights in ports of call. That means we’ll be able to explore each city on our itinerary during the peak times for photography, including sunset and twilight. Along the way, you’ll get expert photographic instruction, learn mobile workflow, and discover creative approaches to travel photography!
I’m offering three international photo tours for 2020, and they are going to be really fun! My 2020 travel photography workshop destinations include Croatia, Ireland, and Panama. I design each of these tours with your comfort in mind, and my goal is to make sure that you return home with incredible photos. Group sizes are generally capped at 12 or fewer photographers, and when land tours are involved, we’ll have a private driver and excess seating capacity so that everyone has room for their camera bags. My international tours are a great opportunity to learn mobile workflow and creative travel photography techniques, including long exposure, infrared, and creative composition.
