I came across these old jars and bottles in the window of the old one-room schoolhouse (now a museum) in Florissant, Colorado. I used my Nikon 1 V2 and 10mm f/2.8 1-Nikkor lens to capture the image, and then I processed it in Photoshop CS6 (with layers) using two steps:
1) Color Efex Pro 4: I used the “Portrait High-Key Bleached” recipe included with The Photographer’s Guide to Color Efex Pro 4. I used a layer mask to allow the sky to show through a little more.
2) Flypaper Textures Metallic “Scuffed Rust” texture added in a layer set to Overlay blending mode
3) Flypaper Textures “Fly Edges 21” in a layer set to Luminosity blending mode. I used a layer mask to allow the underlying areas (subject) to show through while preserving the strong effects at the frame borders.
The final adjustments were made in Lightroom 5, where I tweaked the overall color and contrast.
